Hillingdon bin collections
Bags do most of the work in Hillingdon. Recycling goes loose in one clear bag every week (paper, cardboard, glass and plastics together), rubbish goes in black bags, and garden waste goes in sacks carrying an orange subscription tag.
Garden waste may move to wheelie bins
Hillingdon's cabinet was reported in October 2026 to have agreed a switch from garden waste sacks to wheelie bins, collected fortnightly from April 2027 for £69 a year. The council hasn't published details yet, so keep using your tagged sacks for now. To be updated.
Which bin is which in Hillingdon
Garden waste: £77 a year
£77 for the 2026/27 subscription, which runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Pay by card once or set up an annual Direct Debit that renews itself. Each sack needs one of the new orange tags on its handle, so take the old green ones off. Tags can take 28 days to turn up, and your old ones still count until they do.
Food waste collection
Free, but you have to sign up on the council's food waste page first. It goes in the green outdoor bin.
Report a missed bin
Reports go through Love Clean Streets, no earlier than 1.30pm on collection day and within 72 hours, and the same rule covers food waste. The council then collects within two working days.
Bulky waste collection from £53
£53 for up to six items, £39 if you're over 65 and £94 for landlords. There's one slot a day, Monday to Friday. The free Pop-up Waste Drop mobile service is the other option.

Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
