Put out your bins tonight
General and Recycling — collected tomorrow morning
Binformation schedule list view

What it does

Binformation fetches your bin collection schedule from your council and sends you a notification the evening before each collection. The notification tells you exactly which bins to put out. No guessing, no Googling your council website at 9pm on a Sunday.

Automatic schedule. Enter your postcode and house number. The app identifies your council and loads your full timetable: general waste, recycling, garden, food, paper, whatever your area collects.
Evening-before reminders. Default is 7pm. "Put out your General and Recycling bins tonight." The exact bin names are in the notification itself, not hidden behind a tap.
Doze-proof alarms. Android's battery saver delays most app notifications. Binformation uses exact-time alarms that fire through Doze mode, with a standard scheduler fallback on devices that restrict them. Your 7pm reminder actually arrives at 7pm.
Calendar and list views. See your upcoming collections as a scrollable list or switch to a monthly calendar. Whichever makes more sense to you.
Snooze. Busy when the reminder fires? Tap snooze. It comes back in an hour.
Daily background refresh. Your schedule updates automatically from your council's data during daytime hours. Bank holiday shifts, Christmas chaos, Simpler Recycling changes: all handled without you doing anything.
No account. Your address is stored on your phone. Not in a cloud database, not behind a login. There is nothing to sign up for.

How it works

  1. 1 Share your location or type your address and postcode.
  2. 2 Binformation identifies your council and fetches your collection dates from their data.
  3. 3 Set your reminder time. 7pm works for most people, but you can change it.
  4. 4 Get notified the evening before. The notification lists which bins are due, by name.

Setup takes about a minute. After that, the app handles everything in the background.

334 councils and counting

334 councils covered
~90% of UK local authorities
200+ open-source contributors

Binformation covers 334 local authorities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. That is roughly 90% of all UK councils that handle household waste collection.

The schedule data builds on the UK Bin Collection Data open-source project, a community effort with over 200 contributors that created the original connections to each council's website. We maintain those connections ourselves: monitoring them daily, fixing breakages when councils redesign their sites, and feeding every fix back to the project so the whole community benefits. Binformation's server checks your council's data every day and caches the results, so the app on your phone never touches a council website directly.

If your council publishes bin schedules online, there is a good chance it is already covered. Not every council is, and occasionally a scraper breaks when a council redesigns their website. The community usually fixes those within days. During any gap, the app shows your last known schedule, which is typically still accurate for weeks since bin rounds rarely change mid-cycle.

Pricing

Binformation is free. A single banner ad sits at the bottom of the schedule screen. It pays for server hosting and keeps the app free for everyone.

If the ad bothers you, a one-off purchase of £3.99 removes it permanently. No subscription, no renewal, no further charges. You pay once and the ad goes away forever.

Launch offer: The ad removal is £1.99 (half price) until 30 June 2026.

Questions

Which UK councils does Binformation support?

334 councils across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — roughly 90% of all UK local authorities responsible for household waste. The schedule data builds on an open-source community project, but we maintain every council connection ourselves: monitoring daily, fixing breakages when councils change their websites, and feeding those fixes back to the community. If your council publishes schedules online, it is very likely supported.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your address is stored on your phone only. There is no cloud account, no email required, no login screen. Open the app, type your postcode, done.

When does the reminder fire?

By default, the evening before each collection at 7pm. You can change the time in Settings to whatever suits you. The notification tells you exactly which bins to put out, by name and colour.

Will the reminder actually arrive on time?

Yes. Binformation uses Android's exact alarm system (setExactAndAllowWhileIdle) which fires through Doze mode and battery saver. On the rare devices where exact alarms are restricted, it falls back to Android's standard scheduler. Most apps rely solely on WorkManager for notifications, which Android can delay by hours. Binformation's reminders arrive when they say they will.

Can I snooze a reminder?

Yes. Tap snooze on the notification and it comes back in one hour. Useful if you're eating dinner or in the middle of something when it fires.

Does it handle bank holiday changes?

Yes. Binformation refreshes your schedule daily from your council's published data. When bank holidays shift your collection day, the app picks up the revised dates automatically. You don't need to check a council website or printed calendar.

What about the calendar view?

You can switch between a list view (upcoming collections in order) and a calendar view (monthly grid with colour-coded collection days). Both show the same data, just presented differently. Toggle between them on the schedule screen.

Does Binformation work outside the UK?

No. It is built specifically for UK postcodes, UK council data, and UK bin types. There is no international equivalent of the council data source it relies on.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not currently. Binformation is Android-only. If you're on iOS, BinsOut covers around 80 councils and has an iOS app.

How much does it cost to remove the ad?

£3.99, one-off. No subscription. During the launch offer (until 30 June 2026), it is £1.99. Either way, you pay once and the banner disappears permanently.

Need more than bins?

Binformation does one thing: bin day reminders for a single address. That is all it will ever do.

If you manage multiple properties, or you want to track MOT dates, car tax, warranties, household bills, subscriptions, pet records and more in one place, have a look at Kepthouse. It is my other app. It covers bins for unlimited addresses alongside everything else that comes with running a home. Landlords, people with a holiday let, anyone whose household admin outgrew a single-purpose reminder. Free first month, then £8.75/year, locked for life.
