Terms of use

Last updated: 26 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the binformation.app website. Please read them before you use the site. By using it you accept them, and if you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.

Who we are

Binformation is run by Keep Computing, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. You can contact us at mark@keepcomputing.co.uk.

Binformation is independent. It isn't run by, endorsed by or connected to any council or the UK government.

Using the site

You're welcome to use the site to look up your own council, read the articles, and share or link to any page. Quoting a sentence or two with a link back to the page is fine.

You must not:

  • use the site for anything unlawful or fraudulent
  • try to get into parts of the site or the server that aren't public, or interfere with how the site runs
  • upload or send viruses, malware or anything else harmful
  • put an unreasonable load on the site, for example by sending large numbers of requests
  • present the site or its content as your own, or suggest we endorse you when we don't

Scraping and automated access

You must not scrape, crawl, mirror or run bulk automated requests against this site, or use scripts, bots or other tools to copy the council information on it. That includes collecting pages a few at a time on a schedule, as well as downloading everything at once.

You also may not reuse a substantial part of the compiled information (bin colours, prices, collection frequencies, Christmas changes, missed bin and recycling centre details) in another website, app, dataset or product, free or paid.

The facts themselves come from each council's own website, and you can always get them there. What we protect is the work of finding, checking and organising them across hundreds of councils. In the UK that collection is protected by copyright and database right.

Search engines and the AI crawlers allowed in our robots.txt file may index and cite our pages in the normal way. We may block any traffic that looks automated.

If you'd like to use the data for something, a council project for example, ask first and we'll talk about it.

Bin day lookup and widget

The bin day lookup is for people checking their own collections. You must not call it from scripts or bots, get round its security check, or use it to build up collection dates for other addresses.

You're welcome to put the lookup on your own website using the code on the embed page, free, as long as the iframe and the "Bin day lookup by Binformation" credit stay as supplied. We may limit or switch off the lookup at any time, including on a particular site.

Our content

The text, design, graphics, bin illustrations, logo and compiled data on this site belong to Keep Computing or are used with permission. Apart from what these terms allow, you can't copy, republish or sell them without our written permission.

Council names, and any other names or marks mentioned on the site, belong to their owners. We use them only to say which council a page is about.

Links to other websites

The site links to council websites, Google Play and other places we think are useful. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for what's on them or how they handle your data.

Accuracy

Everything on the council pages is read from that council's website and dated. Councils change prices, collection rounds and rules without much notice, so we can't promise the information is complete or up to date when you read it. Check the linked council page before you pay for anything, put a bin out on a changed date, or rely on the information in any other way. The data sources page explains where the information comes from.

If you spot something wrong, please tell us and we'll fix it.

The Binformation app

The app is downloaded through Google Play, and Google Play's terms apply to the download and to any in-app purchase, including payment and refunds. Our privacy policy explains what data the app and this site collect. Reminders depend on the council publishing its schedule and on your phone delivering notifications, so treat them as a helpful prompt, not a guarantee.

Availability

The site is free to use. We may change, pause or withdraw any part of it at any time, and we don't promise it will always be available or free of errors.

Our liability

We provide the site for general information. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it or relying on it, including a missed collection, a charge or fine from your council, or any business loss.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer, your legal rights aren't affected.

Privacy

How we handle personal data is set out in our privacy policy. You can ask us to delete your data using the steps on the delete your data page.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and the version on this page is the one that applies.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
