Hackney bin collections

Every week in Hackney the green recycling sacks go out, but the black wheelie bin only gets emptied every other week. Food caddies are weekly too, and they come with no liners, so buy your own or go without.

Which bin is which in Hackney

Have bins and bags out by 6am on collection day. Food goes in the grey or blue caddy, and the brown wheelie bin is garden waste, which you pay extra for.

Garden waste: £88 a year

£88 a year for one 140 litre bin, on a year running April to March. There's no discount for joining late, so signing up in January buys you a few months for the full price. Households on Council Tax Reduction pay half.

Get told the night before

Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
