Stockport bin collections

In Stockport the green bin takes food waste with no charge, but garden waste in it needs a £59 permit. Paper, cardboard and cartons go in the blue bin or bag, and glass, cans and plastic in the brown bin or black box.

Blue bin back to fortnightly in December

Paper and card are going back to a fortnightly collection. Stockport had moved the blue bin to every four weeks, and after listening to residents the council is reversing that from December 2026. The exact start date isn't out yet. Every household gets a new printed calendar before it begins, and the online calendar can be downloaded once it's updated.

Garden waste: £59 a year

The permit is £59 per green bin for 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, or £39 with Council Tax Support (first bin only). The price doesn't drop as the year goes on, and there's no limit on how many permits a property can have. With a permit, real Christmas trees can go in the green bin, cut small with branches under 10cm.

Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
