Liverpool bin collections
Nothing to pay for a bulky collection in Liverpool. Each one takes up to five large items, plus five small electricals and five bags of textiles. Rubbish goes in the purple bin, alternating weekly with the blue recycling bin.
Which bin is which in Liverpool
Purple bin for household waste, blue for mixed recycling (plastics, glass, cans, paper and card). Have bins out before 6.30am. Extra bags left beside the bin stay where they are, as side waste isn't collected.
Garden waste: £50 a year
£50 for one green bin, running from the last week of February to the last week of November. More bins cost £93.75 for two, £125 for three, £156.25 for four and £187.50 for five. The bin itself is £25.
Weekly food waste collection
Free weekly collections are being phased in across the city, on the same days as your blue and purple bins. You'll get a letter about 6 weeks before your start, then a grey outdoor caddy and a small kitchen one.
Report a missed bin
Report by 2pm on the next working day. For blue, purple or food bins, you can report as soon as it's 2pm on collection day and the bin is still full.
Bulky waste collection
Free for Liverpool residents. Each collection takes up to five bulky items, five small electricals and five bags of textiles. Put everything outside by 7am on the day, as the crew only comes indoors in exceptional cases.
Recycling centres in Liverpool
No appointment is needed at Otterspool or Old Swan in a car, though vans and trailers of 2 to 3 metres need one, and both close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Get told the night before
Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
