Gateshead bin collections
Subscriptions for Gateshead's 2027 garden waste collections open in November 2026, and it pays to be early: the 2026 price was £37 a bin by the 31 January deadline and £39 after. Collections are fortnightly, usually April to October, up to 15 a year. There's no separate food waste collection, so food goes in the green household bin.

Bulky waste collection from £17
The minimum charge is £17. Large items are £45.70 each, medium £8.50 and small £2.10, and collection is usually within 2 to 10 working days.

Both tips are booking only, up to two weeks ahead, and Cowen Road is for Gateshead residents only while Campground also takes Sunderland residents.

Worth knowing in Gateshead
Both centres are open seven days a week apart from Christmas Day. Real Christmas trees can go to either, or be chopped up for the garden bin while that service is running.
Get told the night before
Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
