Dartford bin collections
Dartford still empties the green rubbish bin every week, and from 9 November 2026 houses get a weekly food collection on the same day. Flats move to communal food services in early 2027. Glass now goes in the grey recycling bin, so the old glass box is no longer needed.
Weekly food waste collections start on 9 November
Dartford houses get a weekly food waste collection from 9 November 2026, on the same day as the green rubbish bin. Each home has two caddies: a small one for the kitchen and a lockable outdoor one designed to keep foxes out. Tip the kitchen caddy into the outdoor one every few days, then put that out beside the green bin.
Line the kitchen caddy with compostable liners or newspaper. Plastic bags are not allowed. Flats with shared bin stores follow in early 2027.
Which bin is which in Dartford
The 180 litre green bin is rubbish, emptied weekly. The 240 litre grey bin takes recycling, glass included.
Garden waste: £53 a year
£53 a year from 1 April, plus a one-off £56 for the 240 litre brown bin. Join part way through and the price drops each quarter, but there are no refunds. Bins out by 6am. Christmas trees aren't included.
Weekly food waste collection
Weekly from 9 November 2026, put out next to the green bin. Don't use plastic bags as liners.
Report a missed bin
Report refuse and recycling separately, and leave the bin out at the edge of your property until it's collected. Neighbours can't report it for you. Missed garden bins have to be reported within 48 hours.
Bulky waste collection from £39.50
£39.50 for up to ten items, and up to four more at £2 each. Fridges and freezers aren't being collected at present, and sofas or armchairs may come on a different date.

Kent won't take upholstered seating at its Dartford sites, so use the bulky collection or the Swanley recycling centre for an old sofa.
Get told the night before
Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
