Crawley bin collections
Since 28 September 2026 Crawley's rubbish bin has gone fortnightly, swapping weeks with the REDtop recycling bin. Weekly food waste started the same week for homes with their own bins. Flats with communal bins keep weekly rubbish and get food collections in 2027.
Which bin is which in Crawley
All three wheelie bins are green, so go by the lid: black for rubbish, red for recycling, and the plain GREENbin for garden waste. Collections start at 6.30am.
Garden waste: £78.10 a year
£78.10 per bin per year. The first year is paid in full when you apply, then it's an annual Direct Debit, and the price goes up each February. There are no refunds if you cancel. It isn't offered on the rural or narrow access round, and your garden day may differ from your other bins. Collections run fortnightly all year apart from a two-week break over Christmas and New Year.
Weekly food waste collection
Weekly, in a 23 litre grey outdoor bin with an orange lid, plus a 5 litre kitchen caddy. Using it is encouraged, not compulsory.
Report a missed bin
Report it within 72 hours of the scheduled collection. The council aims to be back by the end of the next working day.
Bulky waste collection from £26.20
Priced per item by size: £26.20 small, £31.40 medium, £36.70 large, £41.90 extra large, with a maximum of 10 items. Qualifying benefits get £50 off one booking a year. Booking is by phone on 01293 438772.

Worth knowing in Crawley
Crawley collects on every bank holiday except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. When Christmas pushes a collection back, crews take one extra average-sized bag of rubbish for each day of delay.
Get told the night before
Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
