Coventry bin collections

Coventry started a weekly food waste collection in September 2026, and every household was given a new food bin for it. That means food scraps no longer go in the brown-lidded garden bin. The bins all have grey bodies, so it's the lid colour that tells you which is which.

Which bin is which in Coventry

Green lid for general rubbish, blue lid for dry recycling, brown lid for garden waste if you've paid for it.

Green General waste Green-lidded bin - general rubbish (grey body)
Blue Recycling Blue-lidded bin - dry recycling (grey body)
Brown Garden waste Brown-lidded bin - garden waste, subscription (grey body)

Garden waste: £40 a year

A permit is £40 for 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, and the price is the same whenever you sign up, so joining late in the year is poor value. Collections are fortnightly with a pause over Christmas. You can sign up by phone on 08085 834333 as well as online.

Weekly food waste collection

Weekly, with the food bin out by 7am. Flats share a communal food bin, also emptied weekly.

Report a missed bin

Report within two days of the collection date (Monday to Friday, public holidays included), and only if your bin was out by 7am. If the whole street was missed, don't report it: leave the bin out for a later or Saturday collection.

Get told the night before

Binformation is a free Android app. Put your postcode in once and it sends a notification the evening before each collection, saying which bins are going. If the council moves your day for a bank holiday, the reminder moves with it.
